Trolls and team killers need auto-kick/ban. My absolute must-have for making the server public is effective policing of player behaviour. The Linux server attempt was a dismal failure because the mods aren't coded properly for cross-platform. Most hosting plans I've found want an additional $25-ish/mo for the Windows license. that's $50-100/mo assuming I can use my existing Windows Server license. If we need more capacity, I think a dedicated server is going to be required. I may be able to convince my wife that I need the upgrade to 1GB down/100MB up when it's available here. plus the machine already grunts under the load of the few players we have. Hopefully when Make Arma Not War is over, we can get even more modders on board.I'm okay with opening up the server to the public, but I'm not sure if my paltry 30Mb upstream bandwidth can handle any more than 8 people at a time. Hopefully we can do the same with new original content that wasn't in arma 2 aswell, as a sister project under the same terms. It has to end at somepoint and CUP plans on doing this now. You have definitely pointed out a flaw with the redundancy of the mods in the community. We have existing ports from other mods that have been donated to the project. I know for a fact that this is being done with vehicles. I am new to the team and I dont work on weapons, but im pretty sure we started with somebody else's work with their permission. No more waiting on small teams to update their mods, which sometimes never happens as the mod gets abandoned and is not open source. The plan with CUP is that it will be the standard for the community. That way it can always be improved on by anybody, so long as they keep their work open source as well and contributed back into CUP. Want to join? The CUP project is looking for additional manpower - especially modelers, texture artists and config writers. Huge thanks to everyone involved in making this possible! The Community Upgrade Project is the initiative to bring all the content of Arma 2 from BI into Arma 3, upgraded to the Arma 3 feature set. The long awaited weapon pack from CUP has now been released to the public!
